  • There has never been more travel information available, but knowing which recommendations are actually worth your time can be overwhelming. A quick online search can leave you with hundreds of hotel reviews, activity options, and conflicting advice.

    Working with a Maui travel specialist means you don't have to sort through it all yourself. I take the time to understand your ideal trip and recommend accommodations, experiences, and an itinerary that fit your trip, helping you make confident decisions while saving time and avoiding common planning mistakes.

  • No! While Maui is my specialty, I also plan custom multi-island Hawaiʻi vacations, helping travelers combine Maui with islands like Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, or Oʻahu.

    Over the years, I've spent time exploring each of the Hawaiian Islands, allowing me to confidently recommend how they pair together and which islands are the best fit for different travel styles and priorities. If you're visiting more than one island, I'll help create an itinerary that flows naturally from start to finish.

  • Planning fees vary depending on the type and complexity of your trip, and I offer several planning services to fit different travel needs. Before we begin, I'll recommend the service that's the best fit for your vacation and clearly explain what's included, so you'll know exactly what to expect.

It includes personalized recommendations, expert guidance, a thoughtfully designed itinerary, and support throughout the planning process. Rather than spending hours researching and second-guessing your decisions, you'll have a vacation planned around your priorities with trusted recommendations every step of the way.

Planning Your Maui Vacation

  • Maui is a wonderful destination year-round, but the best time to visit depends on what you're hoping to experience.

    Winter (December through March) is the best time for whale watching, while spring and fall often offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and excellent snorkeling conditions. Summer is popular with families thanks to school vacations, long sunny days, and calm ocean conditions, though it's also one of the busiest times to visit.

    Rather than focusing on one "best" month, I help clients choose travel dates based on their priorities, whether that's weather, seasonal activities, budget, or avoiding peak travel periods.

  • I generally recommend spending at least five nights on Maui, though seven nights allows for a more relaxed pace and enough time to experience different parts of the island without feeling rushed.

    The ideal length of your trip depends on your what activities you are looking to enjoy, whether you're visiting multiple Hawaiian Islands, and how much time you'd like to spend relaxing versus exploring. I'll help create an itinerary that makes the most of the time you have.

  • There isn't one best place to stay on Maui. The right area depends on the atmosphere you're looking for, the type of accommodations you prefer, the amenities that matter most to you, and how you plan to spend your time on the island.

    Wailea is known for luxury resorts, gold-sand beaches, and an upscale, relaxed atmosphere. It's a great choice for travelers looking for full-service resorts, exceptional dining, and a quieter setting.

    Kaʻanapali offers a lively beachfront resort experience with easy access to restaurants, shopping, and activities. Just north of the main resort area, you'll also find resort-style condominium properties that offer many of the same amenities with additional space and flexibility.

    Napili offers a quieter West Maui setting with smaller resorts and condominium properties. Its beautiful bays are known for excellent snorkeling, making it a wonderful choice for travelers looking for a more relaxed pace while still being close to Kaʻanapali's restaurants and activities.

    Kihei has a casual beach-town atmosphere with a variety of condominium accommodations, local restaurants, and convenient access to South Maui.

    Hāna offers a completely different experience, with a slower pace and a more remote setting that's ideal for travelers who want to immerse themselves in East Maui or experience the Road to Hāna beyond a day trip.

    Rather than recommending the same area for everyone, I'll help you choose accommodations based on your travel style, preferred amenities, budget, and the style of trip you're hoping to have, whether that's a full-service resort, a resort-style condominium, or something in between.

  • In most cases, yes. While it's possible to rely on hotel shuttles or rideshares in certain resort areas, having a rental car gives you the flexibility to explore beaches, restaurants, scenic drives, and different parts of the island at your own pace.

    Depending on your itinerary, I can also help determine whether you need a rental car for your entire stay or only part of your trip.

  • For most travelers, staying in one location and taking day trips around the island creates a more relaxed and enjoyable vacation. Maui is smaller than many people expect, making it easy to explore different areas without changing hotels.

    In some cases, however, splitting your stay makes sense. Travelers who want to spend meaningful time exploring Hāna often enjoy staying overnight rather than making it a long day trip. Depending on your itinerary, I'll help determine whether one stay or a split stay is the better fit for your trip.

  • For most Maui vacations, I recommend beginning the booking process about six to nine months in advance. If you’re traveling during the holidays, spring break, or another high-demand period, nine to twelve months or more can give you the best selection of accommodations and flights.

    Some parts of your trip won’t need to be booked quite that early. Restaurants, activities, and other experiences often have different reservation windows, so I’ll help you prioritize what needs to be secured first and what can wait.

    If your trip is only a few months away, don’t worry. Maui can still be planned on a shorter timeline, but you may need to be more flexible with accommodations, dining, or specific experiences.

Hotels & Activities

  • I don't recommend hotels based on star ratings alone. Instead, I consider your travel style, budget, preferred amenities, and the type of experience you're looking for.

    For some travelers, that might mean a luxury beachfront resort with multiple restaurants and pools. For others, it could be a spacious resort-style condominium, a boutique hotel, or a quieter property away from the busiest resort areas.

    My recommendations are based on firsthand experience touring Maui properties, ongoing industry relationships, client feedback, and careful research to help you find the best fit for your trip.

  • Yes! If you prefer planning the rest of your vacation yourself but want help choosing the right accommodations, I offer an accommodations-only planning service.

    Choosing where you stay is one of the most important decisions you'll make when planning a Maui vacation. Your accommodations influence everything from the atmosphere of your trip and the amenities you'll enjoy to how much time you'll spend driving and how easily you can experience different parts of the island.

    I'll help you choose the property that's the best fit for your travel style, priorities, and budget, giving you a strong foundation for the rest of your vacation planning.

  • Maui offers something for every type of traveler, whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or a little of both.

    Some of my favorite experiences include exploring the Road to Hāna, snorkeling, visiting Haleakalā, hiking, sunset in Upcountry Maui, exploring Maui’s wilder North Shore, attending a traditional lūʻau, and spending the afternoon at beautiful beaches like Keawakapu Beach.

    Rather than recommending the same attractions to everyone, I'll help prioritize the experiences that best match your interests, travel style, and the pace you'd like your vacation to have.

  • The Road to Hāna is one of my favorite experiences on Maui, and I recommend it to many of my clients. Unlike the other Hawaiian Islands, Maui offers this unique combination of waterfalls, lush rainforest, dramatic coastline, botanical gardens, roadside fruit stands, and black sand beaches, all connected by one unforgettable drive.

    That said, it isn't the right fit for everyone. It's a full-day adventure with winding roads and plenty of driving. I'll help you decide whether it's a good fit for your trip and whether you're better off driving yourself or joining a guided tour.

  • Both options have their advantages.

    Driving yourself gives you flexibility and allows you to move at your own pace. A guided tour lets you relax, enjoy the scenery, and learn more about the island without worrying about navigating the road or finding parking in challenging places.

    Which option is best depends on your travel style, who's traveling with you, and how you'd like to experience the day.

  • Haleakalā sunrise is one of Maui's most memorable experiences, but it does require an early morning wake-up and advance reservations.

    Many travelers choose to pair sunrise with a guided downhill bike tour, making it a full morning adventure. If waking up before dawn isn't appealing, sunset is another beautiful option and is often paired with one of the park's shorter hiking trails.

    Whether sunrise, sunset, or neither is the better fit depends on your travel style and how you'd like to spend your time on Maui.

  • Maui has incredible snorkeling, but the best location depends on the time of year, ocean conditions, and your experience level.

    Popular spots include Molokini Crater, Honolua Bay, Kapalua Bay, Napili Bay, and several excellent reefs off beaches in South Maui. Some locations are best explored on a boat tour, while others are easy to access from shore.

    Rather than recommending one "best" spot, I'll help you choose the locations that are most likely to offer the best conditions during your visit and match your comfort level.

  • I recommend booking the experiences that are most important to you before you arrive, especially during busy travel seasons.

    Popular luaus, snorkeling tours, specialty dining, whale watching tours, and unique experiences can book weeks or even months in advance. Other activities offer more flexibility and can be decided once you're on the island.

    As part of the planning process, I'll help prioritize what should be booked early and what can remain flexible, so you don't miss out on the experiences that matter most.

Travel Logistics

  • I highly recommend travel insurance for every trip. While no one expects travel disruptions, insurance can provide valuable protection for things like trip cancellations, delays, lost luggage, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes while you're traveling.

    The right policy depends on your trip and your needs, so I'll help you understand your options and choose coverage that's appropriate for your vacation.

  • Maui's warm, tropical climate makes packing fairly simple, but it's important to plan for a variety of activities and elevations. Depending on your itinerary, you may spend one day relaxing at the beach and another watching sunrise at Haleakalā, where temperatures can be surprisingly cold.

    I recommend packing lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, swimwear, a reusable water bottle, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light jacket or layers for cooler mornings and evenings. If your plans include hiking or the Road to Hāna, you may also want shoes with good traction and rain protection.

    As part of my planning services, I also provide destination-specific packing recommendations based on your itinerary so you'll know exactly what to bring.

  • For most travelers, I recommend renting beach gear after you arrive rather than bringing it from home. Maui has several excellent rental companies that can provide everything from beach chairs and umbrellas to coolers, snorkel gear, and boogie boards from daily to weekly rentals.

    If you're planning to surf, I generally recommend renting a board on the island as well. The exception is experienced surfers visiting during the winter who specifically plan to surf Maui's North Shore and prefer their own equipment.

    Renting locally saves luggage space and gives you access to equipment that's well suited to Maui's beaches and conditions.

  • It depends on how much time you have and what you're hoping to experience. While it's certainly possible to visit more than one Hawaiian Island, every interisland flight takes time away from your vacation.

    For trips less than 8 days, spending an entire trip on one island allows for a more relaxed pace. If you'd like to experience another island without changing hotels, Maui also offers excellent day-trip opportunities to Lānaʻi, allowing you to enjoy another island while returning to your accommodations that evening.

    If you're interested in island hopping, I'll help determine whether it's the right fit for your trip and create an itinerary that makes the most of your time.

  • For most travelers, renting a car is by far the best way to experience Maui. The island's beaches, restaurants, scenic drives, hiking trails, and resort areas are spread out, and having your own vehicle gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. While rideshare services, taxis, and resort shuttles are available in some areas, they can quickly become expensive and often limit your flexibility.

    Unless you're planning to spend your entire vacation at one resort, I recommend renting a car for the duration of your trip. It allows you to experience more of the island, whether that's watching sunrise at Haleakalā, exploring the Road to Hāna, discovering different beaches, or simply heading out for dinner.

  • For most of your trip, a credit card or mobile payment is all you'll need. Hotels, restaurants, shops, and the vast majority of activity providers accept major credit cards.

    I still recommend carrying a small amount of cash for gratuities on tours, valet service, farmers markets, roadside fruit stands, food trucks, and other small local businesses where cash may be preferred or appreciated.

    You won't need to carry large amounts, but having some cash on hand can make your trip a little more convenient.
